Dear friends and family!
Late summer is an absolutely crazy time to be here in Barcelona. Within two weeks you experience two of the biggest events of the year, Catalunya Day and La Mercé. The first is to celebrate the region and millions of Catalans squeeze together on La Meridiana with Catalan flags waving in the air, singing Catalan tunes. Despite the amount of people and the fact that I had to get out of the metro two stops early in order to avoid suffocation, thus making me very late, I somehow managed to run in to not only one but three of my friends and together we made our way in to the chaos. What a crazy day.
A week later it was time for la Mercé, a week of fireworks, human towers, giant parades and the devil´s fire run. The last one is absolutely crazy. It´s basically a few hours of having fire thrown at you by running devils and their dragons, ducking to avoid exploding fire crackers while the Catalans hold up their two-year-olds so they can have a better look. Did I mention they´re crazy?
Hugs and cheerio xx
